These are the secrets Etsy doesn’t want you to know. Learn how to open a new Etsy shop if your account has been suspended.

In 2019, I lost my Etsy store. I won’t lie, it was a really bad day. I woke up one morning, picked up my phone to check my sales, and there was a message that said my shop was suspended and I could no longer log in. Surely there was something I could do to reinstate my account, but I found out this was not going to be the case. Since I couldn’t log in, I had no way to contact Etsy support. This was very frustrating to me, and there’s a good chance if you are reading this that you have been in a similar situation and also felt this frustration. You are probably eagerly wanting to learn the secrets to open a new Etsy shop after permanent suspension.
After some looking, I found a phone number for Etsy! Yay, I thought. Finally, some help. I called and explained my situation. After a long hold, the woman returned to the phone and said my account was suspended and they could no longer talk to me. The phone hung up. I was shocked! What had I done to deserve this? I had sold on Etsy for 6 years! I had 500 reviews, a 5 star rating! I always provided great customer service! All I could do now was to research what I possibly could have done wrong. And I quickly learned the answer.
Etsy has strict policies sellers must follow. I had made an innocent mistake, but one that caused me to lose my business. I was in process of expanding my business, and I had opened up 2 new shops under the same account to sell different items. This is fine to do, BUT then I made the mistake. I wanted to list some of my items from store #1 into store #2. I wasn’t planning to sell them in both stores. I listed a few of the items in #2 before realizing I was out of time for the day. It was Friday, and I had plans for the weekend. So I left, planning to delete them after the weekend. I did not realize it was against Etsy policy to sell a duplicate item in another store. If you break a policy, prepare to be suspended. Etsy doesn’t usually give second chances in situations such as this. Please review Etsy’s policies. Make sure you are always within their guidelines as you make decisions for your business.
Sometimes, a shop can be suspended for other reasons such as an expired credit card or missing tax information. In these instances, you simply need to contact Etsy and wait for their reply. They may easily reopen your shop when you do what is requested. If you’ve accidently broken a policy and your shop was permanently banned, this article is for you. If there’s a will, there’s a way!
Disclaimer: This may not work for everyone. It worked for me, so I am only sharing to hopefully help other people who rely on Etsy to sell their products.
The secret you need to open a new Etsy shop after permanent suspension is having new information. Everything must be new!
Except your Name
Your name and birthdate may remain the same! At least one step is easy. 🙂
New IP address
This is one of the most important steps. If you were using your phone and your laptop to access your Etsy account, you can no longer use those devices. Don’t even try it. You will probably get instantly banned again. (Sometimes upon suspension, you are no longer even able to have an account to even shop on Etsy.) You will instead need a new device (phone or computer) connected to a new internet source. Never use your old internet source as a precaution. Better safe than sorry!
New Address
You cannot use your address any longer. You will need to enter an old address which you have lived before. Any address from which you have received mail in your name will be fine. Etsy’s identity checkers will not be able to link you to an address where you did not receive mail or if you lived there with a different name such as a maiden name. PO Boxes won’t work unfortunately. It must be a new physical address.
New Bank Information
You will need to open an account in your name with a new bank. You will need a brand new set of account numbers for your deposit account (the one where your sales will be deposited into). The bank will most likely offer a debit card and you can use the numbers from the card to enter as your billing information. Make sure all of this matches your legal name. If not, Etsy will not allow you to open a shop.
New Phone Number
Remember, everything must be new. I know it’s a pain, but worth it if you can make money on Etsy. Make sure you have a new phone number to enter. If you’ve already purchased a new phone (doesn’t need to be expensive) for a new IP address, then you may have already received a new phone number as well. If not, make sure you have a new number.
New Tax Information
This is where is gets tricky. I was able to use my own Social Security Number from my original Etsy account to open my new account, but if you really worried and don’t want to take that risk, you may want to use an EIN. Do not ever put in fake information or someone else’s information. This is illegal and will get you in lots of trouble. You can still sell on Etsy with a legal Social Security Number or EIN.
Instructions to Open your New Shop
Once you open a new shop with this new information, it’s best to proceed with caution as these first few days and weeks are critical during the review process. List your first item. Only one at this time to be safe. Wait before adding any more listings, ideally at least a week, maybe even until you get your first sale. At the time of your first sale, your account may be reviewed again for bank information. Then add a second listings. Even though I know you’ll be excited to get everything going, its best to go slow with at least a week in between each new listing. If you have made a sale, then after 4 weeks you should be good to go! List as you normally would. Check out this page for the secrets for listing items in your shop that will sell.
Now that you’re new shop is open and running, make sure to consistently review Etsy’s seller policies. Trust me, I wish I had.
