What started out as a side business turned into one of the most life-changing things I’ve ever done. I never expected to be able to pay off our bills, retire my husband, and move to our dream location, but I did! And anyone can do this!
I make passive income several ways because one should never have all their eggs in one basket. My two most lucrative ways to make money, however, are selling on Etsy and blogging. Right now, I’m making thousands every month doing what I enjoy! And a lot of the time, that does not include working at all. Here’s my story:
In 2013, my husband and I desperately needed some income. He was unemployed at the time, and I didn’t want to leave home to work. I’ve always loved being a stay-at-home mom with my 4 kids, and I didn’t want to give that up! As I was thinking of Christmas crafts that I could make for our extended family that year, I came across an idea, and by luck, I found Etsy. I decided to give it a try. What would it hurt? This was my first experience selling online, and during that holiday season I was able to complete my first couple of orders.
My husband became employed soon after as a Chemical Plant Manager! A great career and a really nice income, but in a place we didn’t want to live! I spent 6 years growing my Etsy business, learning the secrets and tricks of selling online. The problem was the hours I spent doing manual labor, cutting and sanding wood, painting, preparing the product, shipping, etc… It was a great side income, but nothing that could sustain our family.
So, the day Etsy suspended my account forever, it was bittersweet. I was ready to be done with all the hard work, but I felt lost. I knew how to make money, and Etsy wouldn’t even take my calls. Now I know why Etsy suspended my account. It was a simple mistake I could have easily avoided. I know how to keep this from happening, and also how to get a new account if it does happen! I will share all my secrets!
I decided I wanted to pursue passive income this time on Etsy. I started selling digital planners and invitations in my new store, creating them on Canva and Corjl. With physical products, I was making about $1600.00 per month. My new side income more than tripled that number in the first few months and continued growing! The awesome part was – I no longer had to do back breaking work! No more breathing paint fumes and sawdust. No more missing out on evenings with my family because I had orders waiting to be fulfilled. No more carrying heavy packages to the post office. I found that I could do the initial work of setting up the digital item whenever it was convenient for me, and then I could go on vacation without losing an order.
I quickly learned the magic of the word ‘passive’.

Making thousands of extra dollars every month enabled us to quicky pay off our credit card and auto debts.
Two years later, I retired my husband who was making $200,000.00 per year and had a very successful career. We’ve bought a brand new house in a place we’ve always wanted to live. We live close to mountains and a lake in a fun and safe community to raise our kids. My husband is now able to enjoy life without the stress of work politics and 4:00am alarm clocks! We are heading to Disneyland next week without needing to worry about limited vacation time from work, and without losing a single penny of our income while we’re gone!
I have made hundreds of thousands of dollars blogging and selling templates, currently making a 6 figure salary on Etsy. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true! I’m planning to grow the business even more because I love doing what I’m doing! The best part is that anyone can do this too!!!
I’m not saying there’s no work involved. I write blogs regularly and monitor my Etsy stores. I list new products when I feel inspired with a new idea, but it’s so much better than going to work every day. I can work only as much as I want. Time off is available anytime I want to take it. I can work from anywhere as long as I have access to internet. The best part is the extra time I get to spend with my family!
Freedom and self-reliance can be acquired by anyone! You only live once. Live it the way you want to live it!
