If you are just starting your Etsy store for the first time, you might want to read ‘Secrets for listing products on Etsy for optimal sales, but first you need to have an idea about what you’d like to sell. There are Etsy sellers who are super successful, some even making over 40,000 sales per month. Don’t let this number overwhelm you. I’m going to list to top 5 Etsy categories for 2023, but first I’d like to briefly tell you how to do your own research to find products you would like to sell.
Tip #1 Research Trends
Use tools like Think With Google or Google Trends to find current buzzwords. Find out what Etsy shoppers are looking for and what’s trending. They say it’s all about SEO (which is also super important to be found) but if the product isn’t something people are looking for, you probably won’t see as many people looking for it.
Tip #2 Check Statistics
Take a look at Statista and other reliable sources for information you can’t find anywhere else. This will allow you to make informed decisions to ensure that you become a best seller on Etsy.
Tip #3 Search Etsy
Etsy itself is a powerful tool for finding out great information. You can look up a product you are interested in selling and find out how much competition that item has and which similar items are best sellers. Sometimes even though an item has a lot of competition, this only means that this item is very popular and searched for a lot! Don’t be scared of the competition. I will help you know how to raise through the ranks quickly and easily! You can also search “Trending Now” or “Popular Now” to explore top hits within the marketplace. Also, you can check Etsy’s Trend Report to see the latest market insights!
Tip #4 Use Marmalead
Marmalead is an amazing tool and one that I use daily to test keywords. This shows you valuable information about competition, number of searches, engagement, and trends! This is my favorite tool! It provides insight on what products could be successful, but it also is a great tool for creating keywords – and trust me, every keyword is important!

Jewelry is the top-selling item on Etsy! Over the next 3-4 years, the global jewelry market is expected to grow to $330 Billion! This is the perfect time to break into this popular niche. Browse through Etsy and you will see necklaces, earrings, rings, body jewelry, and personalized jewelry. TIP: Personalized items are often more popular than non-personalized.
Paper and Party Supplies
Everyone looks at Etsy when planning a party! From birthday parties, baby showers, or office parties, there are so many ideas to offer customers. Physical products like invitations and decorations are super popular, but also digital items sell well also. Let your imagination go wild here for a moment. Think cake toppers, stickers, party hats, centerpieces, gift bags, gift tags. The list is endless.
Craft Supplies
Not only are customers searching Etsy for craft supplies and tools, but Etsy sellers are as well. There is an ever-increasing demand for these items. Some of these items may include pressed flowers, paper flowers, gems, beads, digital sewing patterns, and any other item used for crafts. There are so many ideas that people need and want!
Handmade Items
Etsy is popular because of the unique handmade items sold on their marketplace. These are items that can’t be found anywhere else. Often, these items can be personalized, and customers will pay a premium for this. The handmade goods market has grown substantially over the last few years. These items include home decor, stationary, clothing, toys, candles, art, etc… Etsy is a popular marketplace for personalized baby nurseries, personalized t-shirts, and many handmade products that aren’t personalized! The sky is the limit. If you have a unique idea, go for it! With a little advertising, you can become a top seller in your category!

This is a big one. The wedding category is huge, but the demand is also huge! Depending on the state, US weddings have an average spend of $50,000. Shoppers search Etsy for invitations, greeting cards, wedding dresses, ornaments, napkins, candles, centerpieces as well as bachelor party or bridal shower supplies.
My Best-selling items
I have sold items in several of these categories. I started out in the handmade section selling Name blocks. I was very successful selling these personalized blocks for living rooms to baby nurseries, offices to kitchens. Many of my products were #1 in most searches thanks to Marmalead, great pictures, and good reviews. I would probably still have been making them if I wouldn’t have made a mistake which caused my store to become permanently suspended. But I found out how to sell on Etsy again (which actually propelled me even further).
Now, I am not just making side income. I am making a full income, enough that we have bought a brand-new home in our dream location and we live well! And now for my SECRETS. My current best-selling items are in the Baby Shower and Wedding categories! I love making passive income selling invitations, thank you cards, menus, and stationary all created on Canva or Corjl! These categories may seem competitive, but when you know the secrets to selling on Etsy, you can rise above. You can stand out from the crowd, and you CAN SELL your digital templates!
